Amber Dhara is an Indian Hindi language television series that aired on Sony Entertainment Television from 24 September 2007[1] until 24 April 2008, based on the lives of conjoined twins, Amber and Dhara.

Plot[edit]

The story revolves around the life of conjoined twins Amber and Dhara, who share their liver and are conjoined at the hip. 20% of the liver is part of Amber's body and the remaining 80% is part of Dhara's body which rules out the possibility of a surgery being carried out to separate the twins without any fatality being involved in the process. The surgeon, a quack doctor who the twins' mother, Lata, consulted asserted that if the surgery is carried out, Amber will die thereby scaring her off to get any other doctor's opinion.

The girls face many obstacles and decide to run away to Mumbai to pursue Amber's dream to become a singer. Anuj, who is responsible for luring them to Mumbai, is revealed to have had bad intentions and wants the girls to join the circus. Amber and Dhara are dressed up in clownish outfits and are told that they are going to perform but instead are tricked into coming to the circus where they are made fun of. Both girls try to escape the humiliation but Anuj and his goons catch them and force the girls to stay. Amber and Dhara decide to perform one show and end up making many friends at the circus. After giving a marvelous performance, the two girls escape from the Circus. Luckily, their friend Akshat finds them and they live with him until they are able to pursue Amber's dream. They join a band but somehow end up getting arrested for the murder of Akshat's mother. Their mother comes to support them and fights the case for them, but finds out that their estranged father is fighting for the other side.

In the end, they are surgically separated from each other without any fatalities and go on to live their own lives.

Irani[4] was born in 1986 and brought up in Pune, Maharashtra. She moved to Mumbai from Pune when she was 17 years old to pursue her passion for acting. Prior to her acting debut, she assisted her cousin in fashion designing and worked as an assistant stylist.

Career[edit]

Irani made her debut on the television[5] industry with the hit TV series Amber Dhara,[6] where she played the title role of Amber. The story was of conjoined twins, and required her to be conjoined with her co-actor for 8–9 months. She won the Best Debutant Award for this role at the Sansui Television Awards.[citation needed]

In 2009, she appeared on a telefilm based on the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai called Un Hazaaron Ke Naam, in which she played the role of Jyoti, a rich brat. The story dealt with how the attacks transformed her to be more socially responsible towards her society.[7] The following year, she had a role in Yash Chopra's TV series Seven on Sony Entertainment Television. The series was about seven extraordinary people who possess supernatural powers and how they help get rid of the evil from society. She played the role of Varya Vishwamitra, a girl who can control the weather.

She played the lead as Princess Sonali in a play called Zangoora: The Gypsy Prince,[8] which was the first Bollywood musical ever.[9][10] It premiered on 23 September 2010 at Kingdom of Dreams and became the longest-running Bollywood stage show in India. In June 2013, the musical completed over 1000 successful shows at Nautanki Mahal, Gurgaon. This character has been her most challenging role so far as it's her first time on a live stage and has also required her to do aerial choreography. Zangoora and her role have been well received by audiences.

After doing the musical for four successful years, she went to acting and dance classes in New York City, while working with an acting coach there in the city.[11]
